NIGERIA NDE TRAINS 150,000 PEOPLE ON GARMENT MAKING

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Nigeria has announced that over 150,000 persons have benefitted from its skill acquisition training program since its inception in the northeastern state of Adamawa. The skill acquisition training program was initiated in various trades including tailoring as well as fashion designing.

Abubakar Mohammed, director general of NDE, said of the total 150,000, around 45,000 people in the region were trained under the Rural Agricultural Training Scheme (RATS), and Rural Handicraft Scheme (RHS), whereas 100,000 were trained in various vocational and technical trades, including tailoring and fashion designing, reports Nigerian newspaper Daily Times.

Mr. Mohammed explained that nearly 600 beneficiaries from the training program have so far been resettled with startup capital to enable them to become self employed and start up their own businesses.

Mr. Ahmed Barata, senator for Adamawa south, said that 360 beneficiaries from the 600 trained with the support of NDE would be provided with material inputs by the Adamawa state for starting up their businesses.

These beneficiaries would be provided with various inputs, including sewing machineries, to open up their own shops and stores, he added.

Mr. Mohammed commended the Adamawa state for partnering with the NDE and supporting the poverty alleviation programs initiated by NDE in the state.
